Thred excused from short posts
Elizabeth sat in the sun warmed room that was now hers. Though most people thought it was odd, Elizabeth liked it slightly too warm sometimes. It made her calm, relaxed her. The reason Elizabeth sat here, deep in thought on her bed, was because her grandmother had just offered Elizabeth a place to stay through the next school year, and Elizabeth had accepted. She didn't know why, but she wanted to stay in the small town. Now all she had to do was break the news to Vara. Elizabeth staying here meant Vara staying here too. They were a double package that way. She didn't know what to expect with Vara's reaction, but they had much to talk about anyways.
Finally getting up, Elizabeth made her way through the door, and into the hallway. Vara's room was across the hall from hers, so walking to the door didn't take long. The carpet in the hall was thick and it muffled her steps. Though her walk across the hall was silent to Elizabeth, she knew Vara would hear, so she didn't bother knocking on her friend's door. Vara would know she was there.

A shadow crept silently behind it's soundless host. It hovered darkly around a corner and into a narrow hallway then became still. Swift steps had brought Vara to her best friend's side. Although Elizabeth's footsteps were light they rang noisily in Vara's ears. The few quiet thuds appeared impatient. Elizabeth must be ready to talk, the idle thought was dismissed as she spoke.
"I suppose I can't avoid a discussion this time, can I?"
A slight grin edged its way around her slightly parted lips as she waited for the girl's response. It was always amusing to startle Elizabeth.

Like always, Elizabeth gave a satisfactory jump, getting at least three inches of air. The whirl that followed was half-conscious. Eyes wide with surprise in a equally shocked face turned to look at who had spoken, her brain only sparking with recognition a half-second too late. An annoyed expression replaced the shocked one and Elizabeth made a sound that sounding like something mixed between a snort, a growl and an annoyed huff.
”Gah Vara! Are you ever going to stop doing that?? Jeeze, being an immortal doesn’t mean you can scare the crap outa me? Do you want me to have a heart attack prematurely?” Elizabeth asked indignantly, then calmed a few seconds after she had made a bit of a scene. Elizabeth smiled crookedly now.
”But no, you won’t be able to avoid me now. Muahaha.” Elizabeth gave a poor impression of an evil cackle, not having enough motivation to put effort into it. Today. Elizabeth took the cool doorknob in her hand and twisted it open. The door swung open with ease and a whiff of Vara’s unusual scent came rolling softly toward her. Vara’s scent was odd, unmistakable, and… well, mouthwatering. It was attractive even to Elizabeth, who was a straight woman. Elizabeth inhaled happily, and went and sat on Vara’s bed. She patted the place beside her, whether or not Vara would decide to sit there.

Vara ghosted into the room, right on Elizabeth's heels. She gave no reply to Elizabeth's outburst. The only clue that the vampire had witnessed the reaction, was a fixed but amused grin that lit up her otherwise dead features. Halting at the foot of her humble full sized bed she turned to speak, " You wanted to speak to me about something?" This was an accusation more or less.

Elizabeth nodded vigorously, shaking the mattress slightly.
”Yeah. Youv’e been holding back on me. First question, what’s up with Nix. And don’t’ be shy with information…” Elizabeth said, her eyes narrowing slightly. The last time Elizabeth had asked Vara about her reaction to her childhood friend, Vara had avoided the question. She wont escape this time.

There was no point in keeping this from her anymore. If Vara was going to keep Elizabeth safe then she would have to start telling her things. Elizabeth needed to know what kind of person her friend was. It was much easier for her to say it as simply as possible and come right out with it. So she did. " Elizabeth," she sighed " Phoenix is a werewolf." The words tasted flat on her tongue. Vara moved to her side of the bed and gave her friend the firmest stare she had. The stare consisted of a strong mix of concern and regret. There was no way that she could anticipate Elizabeth's reaction.

Just as she had reacted when she learned of Vara’s immortality, she was calm, thoughtful. Almost envious. It seemed none of her friends were mortal anymore. Well, except Raine, if she was a friend. Elizabeth didn’t meet Vara’s stare, but instead looked off behind her head. She understood the seriousness of the conversation now.
”A werewolf? Hmm. I guess this shouldn’t surprise me.” Elizabeth hesitated, not knowing if she should ask her next question.
”How dangerous is h..ee?” Elizabeth asked, her voice faltering at the last moment. The girl met Vara’s eyes now.

"I don't know at this point. Werewolves in general are very dangerous and sporadic in their changing," a sigh rolled through her chest before continuing on, "I'd prefer it if you stay away from him for now." As much as she hated bossing her best friend around her fear for Elizabeth's life was so much stronger. So her preference was more a command than anything else. "I know he's a friend but you're just going to have to trust me with this one," she added with sincerity.
A pallid hand moved from its resting place to sit lightly on Elizabeth's shoulder. The vampire feverently hoped her friend could grasp the fact that her world was no place for a human. Human lives meant little to most immortals.

Elizabeth frowned at that comment. She raised her eyebrows slightly. Her face quickly formed into her ‘I don’t think so, sorry, not going to work. How ‘bout a compromise?’ look. Vara would know it well, and it would be as if she spoke the words aloud. ”I get were your coming from Vara, don’t get me wrong.” Elizabeth's face turned pleading now. ”Only in public, with a lot of witnesses, or if you’re there?” Please mom?? The thought popped into her head. It seemed appropriate, but she didn’t know if Vara would appreciate it so she kept it to herself.

Vara rolled her eyes at her friends expression. Of course, she knew, with Elizabeth, this wasn't going to be easy. She could only guess what was going through the girl's mind. Something along the lines of Yes ma'am or Yes mommy. Vara of course would have preferred an 'alright, fine' but once again, with Elizabeth, that just wasn't possible. There was really no point in arguing with the human she was virtually impossible to dissuade on both the human and immortal level. Another sigh slid its way out of her lungs. It seemed to her that she had done a lot of sighing today.
"Fine," it was her turn to be the understandable one, "but only while I'm around... and yes... around witnesses as well."
I should give her a minimum witness count, the sarcastic thought sifted through her conscious. "There is really no way I can keep you from going to school now is there?" Rhetorical question.

Elizabeth gave a satisfied smile at Vara’s response. The smile lit up her face, making here eyes shine with glee. This would mean that she wouldn’t have to totally avoid her friend who meant so much to her. She wouldn’t have to lie so much about why she couldn’t hang out with him. Maybe he would even trust her with his secret. Vara had trusted her.
”Good good. And no, there isn’t really a way to keep me from school. Besides, I think that school has enough witnesses.” School was her best chance to be with him without Vara. Not that she was trying to avoid Vara though. She was probably the only one that could take him down anyways. Elizabeth found this extremely amusing. Her best girl friend could literally beat up her best guy friend. Now that was ironic.

Vara broke eye contact with Elizabeth and glowered off into the opposite direction. The words that she searched for would not come. As she waited she fettled with a tip of her hair taking in the scenery from her window. She noted, absentmindedly, the waning light in the distance. It was around the humans' meal time and she figured that Elizabeth would eventually have to interrupt their conversation to seek nourishment. She would make her escape then.
The vampire hadn't hunted since the day after their arrival and hunger was etching at her concentration, now. It was unlike her to go without eating but the more recent situations had demanded her attention. "Is their anything else that I should be aware of?" Questioning Elizabeth without specifics was normal. Most of the time both knew what the other was thinking by just a simple gestures or body language.

Elizabeth watched Vara closely as her friend glowered off in the other direction. The beaming smile had faded into one of content. The situation pleased her for now. She sighed quietly, staring out the window. The evening was starting to darken into night. Elizabeth’s stomach growled impatiently. She looked down, and poked her flat stomach, as if it would keep it quiet. Elizabeth’s grandparents had gone out to eat, so Elizabeth was on her own for supper tonight. As Vara spoke, Elizabeth looked back at her. Her brow furrowed, thinking.
”No I don…” Elizabeth stopped. Yes, actually there was something.
”Well, I did invite someone over for supper tonight. Don’t worry though, she’s human. My first human friend since coming here.” Elizabeth said in a rush. The girl had forgotten that Raine was coming over for supper tonight. Elizabeth gasped, realizing that she didn’t have any supper made for when her guest would arrive. Leaping into the air, Elizabeth blew out of the room.
”Oh my gosh I have to cook something!” Elizabeth threw over her shoulder as she raced down the stairs into the kitchen. Panting heavily, she looked around the meek kitchen, trying to find something that could be whipped up in a short time. Spying some spaghetti on the counter, she grabbed a pot, filled it halfway with water, then set it on the burner to start boiling. Next she got out the olive oil, some garlic, basil, and tomatoes, and began slicing furiously the last three ingredients.

It took less than a half a second for Vara to catch on to Elizabeth's mood after she delivered her news. She was downstairs and in the kitchen in a flash. It of course took Elizabeth a few moments to get her human self down the steps. It was a slugs pace to Vara.
Although the fact that Elizabeth seemed to neglect the importance of taking anything seriously, besides her parents’ death, screamed at her for her attention, she had present business to attend to now. Vara shoved the bothersome thought that her best friend was being dangerously impulsive and selfish into a dark corner in her mind so that she was better able to handle the problem in front of her now. A forgotten guest was to arrive any minute and there was no dinner in sight. Vara to the rescue. Of course it was the inhumanly fast immortal's job to do what her human best friend could not. In faster than record time she took the task upon herself to pull out the ingredients intended to make a fabulous dinner for an unknown stranger by the name of ‘Raine’. Vara mentally shrugged.
Another sigh was in order but that too was pushed aside to make room for work. Elizabeth and her needed to work on making their thinning lines of communication stronger or Vara would have a whole ‘nother ongoing string of issues on her hands.
Stress be gone, she silently prayed.
Vara only had the time to pull out the spaghetti noodles before Elizabeth finally made her appearance in the kitchen. “Beat ya.” Her tone was light hearted and meant to redirect her friend’s attention away from the conversation that had been left on hold just moments ago.

Elizabeth chopped madly, only just realizing that Vara had already gotten down the stairs. She gave Vara a playful pout.
”Not fair! I don’t have super speed. Doesn’t count.” Elizabeth teased. She scooted over, making room for Vara on the counter. She was almost done chopping the garlic, and the tomatoes and fresh basil had yet to be chopped.
”How ‘bout use those powers for good, and chop some stuff for me?” Elizabeth teased again, a lopsided grin on her face. With the garlic now chopped, Elizabeth grabbed a skillet from one of the cupboards under the counter, and set it on the stove beside the pot of water. Filling the bottom of the skillet with olive oil, Elizabeth dumped the chopped garlic in the pan, and set the burner on low. She then turned her attention to the pot of water. It hadn’t started to boil yet, but Elizabeth went ahead and put the spaghetti in. Even though most people swear by putting the pasta in after the water had started boiling, Elizabeth didn’t find it made much of a difference in taste or texture. It was just a lot quicker to go ahead and put the pasta in.
That taken care of, Elizabeth turned to Vara, and apologetic look on her face.
”Sorry for springing this on you… I swear it wasn’t to torture you…” Elizabeth offered, making a weak joke, hoping her friend would forgive her.
