A slight crinkling of the vampire's nose was the only indication that she was aware of Elizabeth's distasteful jest. Vara turned to look at her best friend intentionally so that she was positive that Elizabeth got the message.
"I forgive you," she spoke this as she slowly turned back to her chore. Chop the basil, Vara, just chop the basil, she chided herself.
"Tell me, who is this Raine person?" her question was fueled by innocent curiosity.
Vara tried her best to not give her friend the 3rd degree but it was rather disheartening to realize that Elizabeth was out having her little adventures while Vara was home worrying and wondering and where her friend had gone.
In that moment she recognized the true problems in their relationship that they would have to overcome. This all of course led back to their obvious lack of communication. She loved Elizabeth and wanted nothing more than to ensure her friend's happiness and safety. As much as Vara hated being the "older sister" in the relationship she did tend to know best. Elizabeth had her mortality and her pure lack of experience and age to charge her impulsive behavior.
Elizabeth was no longer frolicking in the reality that only mortals knew. Elizabeth was cavorting in dangerous territory now, she was in the big leagues and way over her head. She now lived in a primitive blood thirsty world full of the only monsters one could find in the dirty corners of a fairytale. That is no place for a mortal that intended on keeping their life.
The one disappointment that Vara loathed observing was the face that her friend made every time that she crossed Elizabeth's independence. She knew just how important her own independence was to herself and because of that she hated acting as a cage for Elizabeth's freedom.
But like every maternal being, Vara was more interested in doing what was best for her friend instead of pleasing her.
Hush Hills has become the epitome of danger and peril for those few mortals unfortunate enough to reside here. Elizabeth's heart and roots were buried deep within this town. Vara just couldn't rip her companion from the very place that had delivered her from her former despair. Well, she could but that would involve actually kidnapping her and whisking her away against her will. Kidnap wasn't an option in Vara's mind, not yet at least. Despite that fact that there would be hell to pay with a livid Elizabeth walking around she did keep it as a possible last resort.
All of these thoughts, of course, were roaming around in Vara's head as she finished with slicing fresh green seasoning. It took everything in her power not bring up that which was simmering in her mind. Now, was simply not the time. Having Elizabeth frustrated or even angry at her tonight while her guest was visiting was neither appropriate nor courteous. She could wait for now, but her patience was wearing thin. Another one of her many faults. Vara's age was just a few years shy of a century and she still didn't take the time to practice keeping her patience in check.
