The last bit that Heinrich had mentioned about the man with the Humvee confused her. While she acknowledged Heinrich's sincerity about keeping her trust she didn't understand the warning that he had given her. The inflection in his voice was almost unnoticeable. He sounded concerned or maybe weary. She nodded at him and paused. "Who is this man that you've described?" If there were two positive elements that Vara could receive from this conversation it would be the hope and sincerity that she felt from Heinrich and wary warning of a possible threat to herself or her family. Vara was glued to the vampire's every word now, deciding that departing to check on Elizabeth was of little concern compared to the information that she was about to receive. Her eyes bore into her companion with curiosity and an eager desire to understand.
"You sound concerned, is he of any danger to me?" Shuffling a bit in the grass to bring herself to an upright, sitting position Vara's face began to grow emotionless as her mind assessed the situation and the environment around her. She wouldn't be happy to find that Heinrich was associated with a man that was a dangerous to the ones she loved. She waited for his response in tense silence.

Drake's eyes widened. It would seem Vara had not yet layed eyes on the man. He would have to enlighten her.
"I don't know who he is... but everytime I've seem him, I get an extremely bad vibe. I think... I think he's related to this group of hunters, called Ravenwood. Maybe he's freelance, or maybe its nothing. But if I'm correct, and he is in fact linked to them... he could potentially be one of the biggest threats to any of our lives."
He faced her, with a hint of worry on his face. "He has a military grade humvee, and he wears a military jacket alot. Whatever you do, just don't trust him if you see him. And keep an eye on your friends.. if he's Ravenwood, then he won't be above using other mortals as bait."

It took every bit of Vara's self control not to snarl at this moment. Any possible threat to Elizabeth and her family's lives was unforgivable even if the threat hadn't yet been carried out. An inkling of thought was pressing at the back of Vara's mind almost as if she had had this conversation before. Dejavu'. She couldn't remember ever talking to Heinrich about this man but the man that he described felt like a vague memory in her mind. She couldn't connect the dots. Her recent lack of nourishment was to blame for this. The thought, I NEED to hunt, slammed her conscious into submission.
There were many human-formed organizations out there created for the sole purpose of extinguishing all immortal life alike. Vara new very little of these groups but what she did know was that the more serious groups, such as the group that Heinrich had mentioned, were very dangerous. These were no vampire-slayers-in-training or simple minded enthusiasts. These people were villains. As he had said, they would stop at nothing to seize their prey. The law would not confine them. They would take human blood if everything came down to it. Most likely they wouldn't even think twice about taking a human's life if they got in the way of things.
Vara needed to learn more about this man. Hopefully Heinrich would lend a hand. He seemed pliable enough. He did already worry about her, or so it seemed.
"Who are those people? Ravenwood?", her words were biting. Although she had no intention of coming off angry at Heinrich she couldn't help but take out her frustration on the closest life form to her. I'll have to apologize to him later. For now she needed the facts, anything to help preserve her life and the lives of those that she loved.

When Vara asked who Ravenwood was, Drake took a deep breath, and began to explain as best he could. "Ravenwood is a group of immortal hunters. Unlike many groups, this group happens to be extremely organized. They maintain a cover as a Private Military Contracting company, which is how they stay on the good side of the law."
"They hunt everywhere they want, whenever they want it, and however they want. In the beginning, they actually did some good. They hunted immortals that disregarded the rights of mortals, killing them whenever they struck. But over time, they began to generalize their goals... and started hunting every immortal, no matter what they did."
"I myself... I've had run ins with them in the past. I was once the source of an investigation of theirs, actually, in 1938. The figured I died during the course of it, so I got lucky. But if World War Two hadn't happened... even I'd be dead. No, Ravenwood is likely to be the most dangerous group of hunters to exist. They have military training, military weapons, and experimental tech. They mean serious business."

Vara whole frame stiffened. Sighing deeply she shook her head as she listened to Heinrich go on about Ravenwood. "Mercenaries" she breathed. They were the scum beneath the Immortal population's boot. Their organization's antics bordered unethical. There was no chance that their search would relent if they knew for sure that any immortals existed in Hush Hills. Vara surmised that the man that Drake spoke of was some sort of scout for this viscous group, Ravenwood.
"In regards to their presence in Hush Hills, it is intolerable. I can't have them going through any of my humans to get to me. How do we get rid of him?" She was as much against killing the innocent as any self proclaimed hero out there but if this man was who Heinrich said he was then he was not innocent. He was a danger to this town and the Coons. He either needed to be silenced or removed. It would be stretch for Vara to accept or even trust Drake but if she was to protect those that she cared about then she would need his help. Her first goal was to confirm that this man could be taken care of and the second would be to ask Heinrich for his complete honesty and cooperation. This would be a very interesting test for Vara.

It was quite clear from Vara's reaction to Drake's words that she was rather upset by the idea of a mercenary immortal-killer running amok around Hush Hills. He could hardly blame her. Even if he wasn't a potentiall target, Drake wasn't one to let innocents be placed in danger. Even if he himself was threatened, he'd rather end up dead than see civilians get killed for him. And Vara, he knew, had a very close friendship with his neighbor, Elizabeth, and her family. Elizabeth could become a target if Ravenwood was in the town.
When Vara voiced her thoughts, Drake couldn't help but agree. "I know what you mean. I will not allow any humans to die in Ravenwood's attempts to catch an immortal. Such a thing is intolerable indeed." Drake had long ago started to take any innocent deaths caused by hunters personally, so such a statement was hardly false.
As Vara continued, she asked how the man could be dealt with. To this, Drake shrugged. "I know not, to be honest. A open confrontation would likely end in many a death, both amongst innocents and immortals alike. I have no doubt that I could deal with him, quietly and discretly, but that too, could pose a problem. If Ravenwood were to get word that their agent was killed.. they could choose to react with extreme and deadly force."

"I am going to be frank with you Drake, because so far as I can tell you have been upfront and honest with me, I can not see myself just leaving you to toil with this Ravenwood character alone. I need to know that he no longer poses a threat to me or the people in Hush Hills that are my responsibility. I don't mind doing this thing your way but we are going to have to work together. My preference would be for this to be completed and quickly and as inconspicuously as possible."
Vara knew that she had come to a line that she had to cross and that line was as unstable as a human emotion. That line could change at any moment and leave her stranded on unknown territory. She truly believed that Heinrich was the lesser of two evils at this point in the game and she was going to have to be very careful where she stepped next. Vara was a perfectionist like no other. When she set her mind to a task she completed it, seamlessly. This particular venture called for nothing less than perfection in order for everything to pan out well. There was no denying the possible danger that lay ahead for Vara's friends. She indeed felt no fear for herself but her concern for her humans caused everything but panic to rise in her.
As far as Vara was concerned Ravenwood could all go to hell. They were mortals, they posed little threat to her. Plus, Vara was a warrior and would go down fighting iany day of the week but unfortunately for this vampire she no longer had the luxury of fighting only for herself. She had to fight for her family.
