Drake signed. The few days he'd been in town were quite eventful. Meeting two werewolves, seeing the town, it was tireing stuff.
So, now he found his favorite spot, he relaxed. After reviewing Hush Hills, Drake decieded the park was by far the best part of the town. Just enough people during the day, enough it wasn't lonely, few enough it was peaceful.
Currently, the 700 year old bloodsucker was thinking about his state of being. Vampirism. So much fun. Or so Drake had thought. At first, Drake and his friends had been upset. Then, later on, they were overjoyed to find they were immortal. Even better, even more girls then usual hung around them. It wasn't till the 1930's everything went downhill, Drake and his friends split between the countries they supported. They all died, he survived, and came out all the wiser for it.
Yes, there were benifits. Didn't have to breathe, didn't have to eat, didn't half to drink. There was the craving for blood, but after years f combative control, he got passed that. Mostly, Drake only saw the worse parts. No one trusted him, immortals least of all. Any relationships he had over the years were destroyed by constant politics and rivalry. Being a man that was a missing part of a fascist regime generally meant he was also at risk.
But hey, what did it matter now? Laying here, on the grass, Drake was relaxed. Most everyone else stayed away from him, but he did notice the more than occassional glance from a female towards him. Another blessing, and/or curse. Women seemed to fall for him in droves, and it really was hard to keep a lasting relationship with somone destinedto die WAY before you were.
Right now, however, under this tree, in this shade, with this gentle breeze, Baron Heinrich Draco von Carstien closed his mind to the world around him, smiling.

There was little time to ask the question why, yet she asked herself anyways. Why had Vara come out here, really? Was it pure curiosity? A matter of Elizabeth's safety? Or did she want to simply converse with someone of the same species?
For sanity's sake she did not answer any of those questions.
The weather wasn't too terrible today, a little overcast. The sun only peeked through occasionally and there was a light breeze. Strangely enough Vara loved the wind. Although it forced her hair to twist and turn in ways that translated into knots and tangles for her to work out later, she enjoyed it immensely. There was just something about walking against a force greater than yourself and feeling it's unbridled power flow smoothly across cold skin that attracted her. Most humans she knew disliked the wind. It was a nuisance to them, she couldn't understand that. At times Vara feared that she had fallen so deep into vampirism that she lost all touch with anything that still connected her to man. Through the years she had begun to hate herself a little less and appreciate the differentiation between her and the world. That made her question her own motives quite often.
Drake was lying silently in the grass looking as graceful and as beautiful as when she had met him. No surprise there. Such a peaceful aurora sifted through the air around him that seemed a bit misplaced. She envied him immediately. In a town like this there was no room for her to be at peace with anything. Tranquility had been long forgotten.
Vara could only guess that he already sensed her presence. Her entrance into the park was muted and swift but that meant little to a vampire. She took it upon herself to take a seat to the left of Drake on a lush patch of grass nearly inches away from him.
"Come here often?"
OCC:// Sorry. . . it's kinda choppy. XDD

His senses picked her up as soon as she set foot within the park, a much different presence than the rest of the current park goers. He figured it was Vara, as any other vampire would have registered quite differently, and he could smell a werewolf from across town. A minute later his guess was proven true, as he scent began drifting towards him from where she walked, followed immediately by his subconscious thoughts connecting her presence to his memory.
Drake didn't react, instead choosing to simply stay as he was, and see what would happen. If she was here for anything BUT him, he knew Vara wouldn't particularly enjoy it if he interrupted her. He'd feel the same way.
However, it seemed that Vara was walking his way. And, considering there wasn't much of interest on his side of the park, Drake assumed he was her destination.
Yet again, his guess was proven true, when she walked right up to him.
Bloody hell. Again, with the musical voice and the intoxicating scent! Sooner or later, Drake was going to become sick of females too, thanks to her.
"Come here often?"
Drake sat up, propping himself up by his hands. "I suppose you could say that."
ooc:// no problem. I'm half asleep, and so I didn't notice, lol.

Nonchalantly, Vara leaned back on her palms taking in the sky. Through inhaling she captured a deep breath of the early evening's air. There the fresh air sat within her lungs as her white eye lids slowly slid over their dark blue hosts. Her current state identically resembled his serene one. Vara let no emotion leak from its origin. Any notion to show her feelings were crushed quickly.
After she had forced herself to relax she listened to the dwindling sounds of people moving about the park. It was starting to get dark and most of the residents living near by were heading into their homes. She presumed it was dinner time for the humans. Vara had promised herself before coming here that she would get straight to the point with him but it was turning out to be such a nice night and she desperately wanted to allow herself to enjoy at least one of the few casual conversations that she had had in a long time. With out realizing it the question that she had pondered for hours slipped.
"The humans. . . don't bother you?"
She had been doing a lot of 'slipping' lately

He shrugged. "Honestly, no. I've had my run ins with some particularly bad types, but other than that? They're fine. Why do you ask?" Drake figured he knew why. Having noticed his calm demeanor amongst the mortals, he figured Vara was puzzled as to why he had no problem around them. Other than spending years around them, he'd learned to like them thanks to the mistakes of many of his fellows. Drake had watched many a vampire die, or at least become shunned, thanks to their anti-everything personality.
Humans were more than walking buffets, like others thought. Also, they weren't all evil slayers hell-bent on ridding the world of immortals, like even more thought. Nothing special about them, yet nothing inherently bad about them.
And besides, humans were so down to earth, most times. There were too many immortals walking around making a fuss out of everything, or just being plain annoying. Like other vampiric males, damn their eternal souls more-so than they already are....

Vara really thought about what he had said. Yes, she'd come across those 'bad' types before so she knew how it felt to resist the burn. It used to be a challenge for her to contend with the searing fire that raged through her body. The symptom of desire followed closely behind its mate effecting not just the mind and the throat but the heart. . . It was a great accomplishment for any vampire to harness any control over their instincts.
"Oh, I was only wondering. . .You're quite laid back around them and I'm really just trying to look out for Elizabeth's safety."
Plus, I'm curious, she silently admitted to herself. Why wasn't she feeling any aggression this towards this man? Odd.
"It doesn't help my nerves to come to find that a strange vampire has moved in next door." With that finally said she looked squarely at him scrutinizing his appearance and demeanor. Generally, Vara had never been at ease around other immortals but this Drake allowed her nerves to finally settle. It was troubling to be both at peace and disturbed at the same time.

Drake smiled. Of course. If a vampire is as calm as he, then that same vampire has the potential to be ruthless, and uncaring of other beings. In her position, he'd be curious too. Hell, he'd be close to violent, especially if my apparent best friend was human.
He thought a minute about here second comment. Her inclusion of the word of strange was interesting. He was a vampire. That didn't make him strange. Was it his calm demeanor? He doubted that would constitute strange. Intriguing, perhaps, but strange?
"Fair enough. I'd do the same for any of my friends if another vampire moved in on my territory.
Strange? How am I 'strange?' "

A swift movement placed Vara on her side, her left hand used as a cradle for her head. Her nose crinckled slightly at his first comment. How he so easily empathized with her. Vara's eyes rolled.
"I'm so glad that you understand." Sarcasm. " I don't see many vampires that poses the power of self control is all." Her right hand gliding through the air in mock disreguard waved away the last half of the conversation. A new question sprouted in her mind. Maybe an offensive one. She knew that if a vampire inquired of her feeding habits things would get a bit touchy. But she was too curious for courtesy.
"What is your dietary preference?" Slyly worded. She praised herself.

Drake barely surpressed a snicker at Vara's obvious sarcasm. At her explanation, Drake shrugged. Fair enough. Thinking about it like that, he was strange.
When Vara inquired about his feeding habits, Drake's eyebrows rose, and he turned to face his immortal companion. It was unusual for a vampire to ask another of their dietary preference. Under normal circumstances, Drake would have been a bit angry, but he let it go. Not only did Vara attract Drake, but she also gave off the vibe of a person who wasn't trying to offend you, instead just extremely curious. So, Drake let Vara be the exception.
"Animals, mostly. Humans, but generally only if they piss me off... or are stupid enough to try and kill me. However, when I'm in the mood, I might decide to take a bite out of a werewolf, should I be able to get close enough to do so. But yeah, thats about it."
Drake was tempted to ask Vara the same question, but decided against it. He'd rather not risk oversteping boundaries.

Odd. That word hung in empty space in Vara's mind. He feeds primarily on animals? What vampire in their right mind fed on animals, aside from herself though she wasn't entirely sure that she was always of the right mind?
A little disappointment as well as firm disagreement rose up inside Vara at the mention of humans. She saw no human or immortal, namely werewolves, as the equivalent of an animal. She had learned to treat the large population that humans were as a little something more than lower life forms. They dominated the earth with their sheer mass and their instinct of survival and their love. They definitely were not on the same level as animals. She had been a human herself once upon a time. Vara held respect for humans despite their selfish behavior and lack of power and strength. Every living being on this earth deserved a chance at life. Vara had no intention of stealing any human's life any time soon. She didn't hunt animals for fun she hunted for survival. Food. Humans or even werewolves were simply not an option.
After a long pause, the wheels in Vara's head halted their turnings and grindings she brought her thoughts back to reality. Back to Heinrich and the present. Another innocent question of curiosity sprang up in Vara. She had to know the reason behind his insane choice of nourishment. " Why animals? Why not humans? Does the taste of animals' not offend you?" This vampire simply baffled Vara. How does he make feasting upon animals sound so normal for a vampire?

Drake glanced at Vara, to judge her reaction. He knew full well that a vampire who sustained himself primarily on animals was a very rare and extremely unusual vampire indeed. Of course, he had his reasons. Reasons which were his and his alon-
Vara asked her next question then, about why exactly that was what he chose. Drake sighed quietly. The female vampire beside him had asked yet another question he considered private... but here he was, about to answer her truthfully. Damn his soul more than it already was.
"Why? Well, its simple really. I'm a disgrace to vampire kind, to tell the truth. In the beginning, sure, I fed on humans as much as the next vampire, but over time, I began to feel guilty over it. Now, I can't bring myself to feed on a human who has done nothing to me. I don't know, I guess to me its on the same level as assault. I've attacked them, even if they don't know it. I know, I know, I problebly sound ridculous to you, but thats how I've thought for a long time.
So, instead, I feed on animals. No, I don't like it. In fact, I hate it. But if thats what I have to put up with to keep my conciouns clean, so be it."
Though he couldn't be sure, Drake had the feeling that Vara was relativily young, compared to himself. Maybe a century or two old, perhaps. So Drake figured she'd think his explanation ludicris. Fair enough, if she did. He would have, at 100 years old.

Her graze drifted off into the distance as the vampire next to her began to explain himself. The hum of his words sifted through her conscious. Vara was watching the people now as she soaked in Heinrich's words. Today was a lazy day for her with autumn setting in. Her body slowly began to relax as if she was in the presence of an old friend as he continued on. White lids shut over blue irises as her mind ran free in thought.
There was a short surprise at hearing the vampire's honest confession to her. It was a rarity to find such honesty these days, much less an honest immortal. Most vampires were liars and murderers but this Heinrich fellow was a saint compared to the slimy leaches that have crawled into her life before. Vara had never quite forgiven her vampire companion years ago for his treachery. Days go by like seconds in an immortals mind. When you have all of the time in the world its easy to harbor grudges and bad feelings towards others that will live forever. Drake continued on with his innocent rendition of his eating habits. As he neared to what Vara assumed was his conclusion her right eyebrow cocked up and her bright eyes flashed open. He cared about who lived or died. He has a conscience. Now she was truly intrigued. Vara played around with that thought in her head. He seemed older to her. Obviously much older than herself based off of the underlying experience that he had shown through his words. Vara wasn't about to begin being as open with this vampire as he was with her but she did take into account that he might be a good ally to have. It didn't seem wise to her to get on Drake's bad side.
In a way she felt close to him. She identified with his opinion and position. As much as Vara would have loved to pour her guts out right then and there she chose to take the safer route due to the horrible experiences in her dealings with other vampires in the past. Vampires in general simply weren't to be trusted.
" Blood is blood..." she began to state, "but I do respect any vampire with the power to maintain enough self control withstand the taunt of human blood. You are just for choosing animal prey over human prey." Why she had just validated his opinion and personal preference she had no idea but one thing was for sure, Drake was not the kind of vampire to lie to. In fact she would have felt extremely guilty to have deceived him into thinking that she wasn't as like minded as he as she had originally planned to do. It was odd how her heart took over in the most strangest of situations when she knew that it would have been wiser for her head to have been in complete control. ((OCC: I haven't reread my post so if there are any errors I will correct them later. I am much too lazy to do it at the moment. So please excuse the mess that my post may be.))

He shrugged at Vara's response.
"Well, thats your opinion, I guess. I don't consider myself better than anyother vampire, but if I'm 'just,' in your eyes, well, I guess thats a rather big accomplishment." He smiled at her with this last statement. "After all, just by talking to you for such a small amount of time, its quite obvious its hard to gain your respect."
And quite truly it had to be. Or perhaps, it was just immortals that had a hard time gaining respect from her. Either way, Drake was pleased with himself. It would seem that he had at least made a good impression on her. Perhaps he could capitalize on that... a vampire friend would be a wonderfully refreshing thing indeed.
Hopefully, Drake's judgement of Vara was close to the truth... he didn't want to try and befriend not a very nice person vampire number 389. He prayed that she wasn't. That would be a major dissapointment indeed.
Drake's mind wandered, thinking about the vampiric friends he'd had in recent times. Sadly, there weren't many. The most recent one betrayed Drake twenty years prior. It had turned out he had been working with that Ravenwood crew, and had been trying to lead Drake to them. Of course, he failed, and Drake executed him, but despite the betrayal, and the outcome of the friendship, it had been great, at least for Heinrich.
At this time, Drake realized he had been staring at Vara, and so slightly shook his head. He quickly ran through various excuses to say, in case Vara noticied. He hoped she didn't. That was for sure.

Direct eye contact was key when relating to someone or at least attempting to appear that one is relating to someone. Vara had always kept that in mind when speaking with most anyone. She also kept in mind that direct eye contact also meant that someone had an air of authority and respect and never intended on backing down. This sort of contact is what Vara kept with Heinrich now. She wanted him to know that she was both confident in herself and that she also related to him. Although Vara had noticed that Drake's eyes were looking at her instead of in her eyes. That told her more about him than he could ever explain to her.
As into the conversation that she was she couldn't help but notice the direction of the sun out of the corner of her eye. She had stayed much later than she had intended. She liked to keep tabs on Elizabeth as often as she could but with her friend always running off the way she had been lately that task had proven to be much harder than Vara had originally planned. Besides, it didn't help that she was being drawn into conversation by a strange vampire-man when she could be taking her human friend for a "walk". Elizabeth was not one to be kept on a short leash, so every once and a while Vara chose to give her her space. Now, by the looks of things, she had given Elizabeth quite enough space for the day. Probably enough space for the whole year. Hopefully she hadn't made a mistake by getting caught up in a refreshing conversation with one of her own species.
"It is hard to earn my respect. Immortals are always looking for cheap fixes and lies. That's the only way that I've ever seen those of my own species so giving you the respect that you deserve isn't easy for me. Don't take that lightly, Heinrich, because if you cross me I won't take it lightly."
A brief pause sent her down memory lane for a few short moments. That definitely was not somewhere that Vara preferred to be.. Flash backs were not welcome from her past.
"Too cut this short I need to be going. It's late and I am most entirely sure that the small blonde that you met earlier has gotten herself into some trouble by now. Vara to the rescue." She murmured the last bit to herself chuckling at her cheesy punch line as she thought about it. Vara always found time to amuse no one other than herself when she was stressed or anxious. It was a horrible, self indulgent habit but she never could find the strength to suppress the need to make herself giggle at her most unfortunate life.

Drake listened to Vara's words, and nodded. "I know Vara... and I don't. And, I can promise you, even if that means nothing to you, that I will not cross you. I've just barely earned your respect, I have no intent to lose it. No, you can trusy me on that." He spoke softly, meaning everyword he meant.
From what he could tell, Vara hadn't noticied him staring at her.. which relieved him. It was quite possible she would misinterpret that action, instead thinking him to be eyeing her as a human might check out a female. No... it was something else entirely, he realized, that made him stare. Something that even he couldn't see.
Vara spoke again, informing him she had other business to take care of elsewhere. A mixture of relief and dissapointment flooded through him, dissapointment that she would be leaving, relief that now he could have a chance to reflect upon everything said.
Picking up the last part of her joke with his oversensitive ears, Drake smiled. A cheesy joke, to be sure, but amusing in a way. In anycase, Drake respected Vara's apparent bond with Elizabeth. He never had been able to truly befriend a human in centuries. Vara was lucky.
"Well, in that case, Vara, farewell for now." A sudden thought flickered across Drake's mind. "One thing though, before you go. Perhaps you've seen a man driving a Humvee? Watch out for him, Vara. I have a really bad feeling about him... something I havn't felt in quite some time."
"In anycase, be carefull, and I look forward to talking to you at a later time."
