This day was nice. No, nice was an understatement. Amazing might be a better choice. Stupendous, excellent, wonderful, extraordinary. It was a very beautiful day, today. Raine's first morning in Hush Hills. You could say that she was skipping the important parts of running away and treading a path that she was paving for herself. Skip the hotel, dash responsibility, after all she had been responsible her whole life. First destination,' Marley's Apple Orchard', or so the sign said.
She pulled herself to a halt at the end of a grassy field and jumped from the rustic heap of metal that she called a truck. A smile escaped her lips as the sun drizzled its warm, honey rays upon her skin. Perfect, the gleeful thought escaped through her parted lips. The wonderful realization hit her, freedom, it warmed her from head to toe. Raine sucked in a gasping breath as she took a look around. In the distance lay a lush orchard of red, green, and golden apples just waiting to be picked. Her brisk confident walk toward the orchard transformed into a full out run. Before she knew it her legs had taken her across a large field up a rounded hill and into the trees.
She stopped at a large tree with gaping branches which extended out far above her. Laughing as she moved, Raine found herself climbing the tree. It took her only moments to spot just the right branch to perch on. From her seat she was in prefect reaching distance of two large golden apples. And of course those were her favorite kind. A hand shot out from her side and stretched to touch the smooth dew laden surface of one of the apples. After putting the fruit to her mouth she zoned in on the fact that it tasted so much more delicious than she had expected. A deep, contented sigh was released in reaction to the satisfaction of what her taste buds told her was real.

"Yeah, the golden delicious are my favorite too." Said a voice from below. An average sized girl stood below Raine. The girls bright face smiled warmly up at the other girl, even though technically she was stealing. Mrs. Marley wouldn't mind though. The older woman was kind and laughed easily. Warm splotches of sun light beamed down on the girl's face, bringing out the golden tint to her naturally tan skin. The light caught her dark brown eyes, and turning them a color closer to honey. The eyes were searching, but they soon gave up their search, and were just friendly.
Elizabeth hadn't been here in so long, since she moved away. And now it was one of the places she could go... alone, with out Vara getting edgy. She didn't blame her friend though, she was only trying to keep Elizabeth safe in this town of immortals. This girl seemed normal enough, at least she wasn't a vampire. Elizabeth almost sighed in relief. This girl was the second human she ran into, the rest were immortals. Elizabeth jumped nimbly up into the tree, climbing expertly to rest close to the same level as Raine. She smiled warmly at the girl.

Far below her bare dangling legs a light female voice made a comment that almost mirrored what Raine was thinking right at that moment. "Ah, you have good taste", she grinned back at her. Raine's curious eyes followed the girl's movements as she made her way gracefully up the tree. It appeared to her then, that this girl was a practiced tree climber, like herself. Her grin changed to a beaming, wide smirk. Then she made a courteous gesture, she picked the second golden apple and held it out to her new companion. "I'm Raine", her bright breezy voice chimed in the air. Suddenly, a hearty giggle burst from her throat as a gust of wind blew dusty red and rich blue locks of hair in her face. She struggled slightly to regain her balance then righted herself.

Elizabeth gave Raine a friendly smile, and accepted the shining apple. She rolled it around in her hands, appreciating the texture and firmness of the apple. Feeling it's smooth surface. Raine had picked two perfect apples. Elizabeth raised the apple slightly, almost as if she was giving a toast.
"It looks like you have good taste too." Elizabeth added, before crunching down on the crisp flesh of the apple. Juice almost dripped from her mouth, but she caught it at the last minute with her tongue. The fresh blast of wind caught Elizabeth by surprise, but she mirrored Raine's actions, regaining her balance. She obviously knows how to climb trees, Elizabeth thought, examining Raine's appearance really for the first time. Before she was just checking to make sure she was human. Raine had the most gorgeous hair. Elizabeth longed to reach out and finger the brightly colored strands.
"I'm Elizabeth, or E, but most people call me Elizabeth. Your hair is amazing. Elizabeth added, her voice had a hint of wonder in it. Her own hair was different, short, flipped out/spiking every were, with some pink, or purple if she chooses. Raine's hair was almost delicious to look at though.

With a vigorous nodd she thanked Elizabeth as best she could. Raine was having a hard time acknowledging the blonde with words for her mouth was full of the sweet and tantalizing fruit. It took only a moment to polish off the apple. With a flick of her wrist the apple core went sailing. After the mouthful had sucessfully slid down her throat she focused on the right words to use to thank her new friend. Finally they came in a burst.
"Wow, thanks." she chirped.
It was funny how things like this happened to her and didn't at all come as a shock. A Raine befriending an Elizabeth. They knew nothing of each other yet Raine found beauty in the simplicity of trusting a complete stranger. Maybe this is a sign, the thought sent a tingle up her spine. She wiggled a bit in her branch.
It was great, Elizabeth had metioned her hair because Raine was admiring the girl's hair as well and wasn't sure how to broach the topic. I mean seriously what do I say? Hey you! Your hair is the craziest thing I've ever seen can we trade? HA! I think not, she thought. Suddenly a single, slender finger appeared in the air beside Elizabeth's face. It made a swift move and poked a strand of the short spiked hair then retreated. " I'd never be that brave. That cut is excellent though. I love it" The inkling of a frown edged its way upon her face, she was jealous.

While Raine finished off her apple, Elizabeth took the opportunity to get into hers. Though apples usually tasted better when cold, and fresh from the fridge, these tasted just as good in the late summer sunshine. Elizabeth stared through the apple tree's leaves to the beautiful landscape beyond. Marley's Orchard was elevated higher than the rest of Hush Hills, so the foot hills of the Appalachians spread about her.
She sighed in contentment, before turning back to the energetic Raine. Elizabeth couldn't help but beam at her new acquaintance/friend. Raine was cool, uber cool. It was very easy to picture Raine with Vara and her as they had 'friend time'. Elizabeth's stomach fluttered excitedly at the thought of making a friend here, and a friend who was so amazing.
Elizabeth giggled softly as Raine poked a spike of her hair. So new new friend liked her hair also. A sense of contentment welled up in her chest with the knowledge that Raine thought Elizabeth's hair was as cool as Elizabeth thought hers.
"Thanks. Your color is still more amazing though." Elizabeth argued friendly, still smiling. If Elizabeth wasn't so personal bubble conscious, then she would have hooked a finger through a stray strand of Raine's multi-colored hair to get a better look at it. But, she remained in her own space, for the time being.

Raine's face crinkled into a sheepish grin and kicked her legs back and forth as the mulled over the new compliment. Elizabeth was nice. And the loss for words continued. How would she convince this girl that she prefered Elizabeth's hair over her own. She couldn't.
"Errg. You're not making this easy for me." she joked as wrapped both hands around the branch she sat.
With a shriek she swung herself into the air and fell towards the ground. Her feet planted squarely on the grass and her right hand landed firmly in front of her. A swift jerk brought her standing upright again, then she turned to face the tree. While she brought her excited blue eyes up to meet Elizabeth's she cupped her hands around her forehead keeping the sun out of her face.
"C'mon, Elizabeth!", she yelled up, "I'll race you!" Before the girl had time to respond Raine was dashing off into the other direction. The wind wipped at her face as bright green apple trees flew past her.

Elizabeth grinned, not making any arguments on hair preference. She turned her head politely away, so she wouldn't be staring at Raine. The leaves on the tree gave her a broken view over the landscape. Though not complete, it was hard to escape the beauty. Golden sunshine didn't reach them here, though it flooded the light outside of the trees. She sighed in contentment. Marley's would definitely be a place that Elizabeth would visit frequently.
Elizabeth almost got lost in the vast foothills stretching out in the distance. Raine's loud shriek brought her back to the tree they were sitting in. With a surprised blink she snapped her head back around to Raine, and what had disturbed her. But the girl wasn't there anymore. Elizabeth automatically looked down, and found that Raine had jumped down and was now yelling up a challenge to race. Elizabeth scrambled down from the tree as fast as she could, and started running after her. Elizabeth had a slow start, but she brought her speed up steadily. Elizabeth was fast for her size, but with the late start, Elizabeth couldn't quite beat Raine. Breath huffed, muscles pumped, and a grin spread across her face while the wind whipped her short hair back.

Childish laughter flooded the orchard with song. Hands flew, out stretched towards the sky. Raine was having the time of her life. All that was on her mind was the vast orchard and the foot race she had begun. Dappled rays of warmth flew at her from beneath the trees. The light dashed off of her red hair in quick flashes.
"I'm winning, Elizabeth!", she shouted over her shoulder, "you're not going to lose to a stranger are you?"
Before she could sreact, the heel of her foot came in contact with a fallen apple. That sent her reaching for air as she flew. A loud thump could be heard as she landed, sprawled across the ground. All she could think was ouch. Yeah, that hurt. After a moment an eye hesitantly opened for a peek, when she finally stopped falling. She could see bright light and green. It was all mushed together to form a big blob of color, though. She squinted her eyes from the light. Something ached, though she couldn't quite detect which body part hurt the worst. She twisted upwards. Yep, it was definitely her tail bone. Ouch she thought again, that'll really hurt in the morning.
Once more she dared to open her eyes. This time it was different, everything started out as a splash of indecipherable colors. In a second everything seemed to come into focus. Absentmindedly, her hand stretched back to rub her lower back. She winced, sucked in a breath of air, and counted to five under her breath. The sharp pains subsided and then grew into a dull ache. Then a thought occured to her. This was funny. A peal of laughter exploded from where she sat. I wonder how much air I got.

Elizabeth’s breath chugged harder at Raine’s taunt. Her muscles complained at the strain. She didn’t usually force her body to run so fast for so long. Giving up crossed her mind, but she just pumped her legs harder. A giggle escaped her lips as her shoes flew off behind her with a sharp kick. Elizabeth was barefoot now. Ew, hopefully I don’t step on any rotting apples, Elizabeth thought quickly, remembering how unpleasant that could be. Only soft, slightly damp grass was under her feet now though. She glanced over at Raine racing almost beside her now. Then, déjà vou. Raine was gone again. Elizabeth slid to a wobbling stop in confusion. Now where had she gone? Elizabeth’s head whipped around, then to the ground. Raine was sprawled there, apparently from a fall.
Raine appeared to be in mild pain, but Elizabeth tried to stifle giggles, finding the ordeal funny. She didn’t want to upset her new friend by laughing at her. When Raine looked up her expression turned stoic, waiting for Raine’s reaction. The peal of laughter made her smile, then Elizabeth had joined in. She walked over to Raine, and held a hand out to help her up.
”You okay?” Elizabeth asked with a giggle.

Despite the fall and despite her current position as an escapee, Raine was feeling pretty good. The fit of laugher and giggles slowly ended although, she was quite pleased with her fall. The hand offered to her was gladly met as her left hand reached to take Elizabeth's. For a fleeting moment she studied the obvious contrast between the pair of hands. Elizabeth's hand had a warm rusty color that gave her a nice healthy glow. Her own was much paler in comparison. Her skin always kept a papery white hue, with only a hint of warmth in proof that she wasn't dead. But sadly, her skin would never match the alluring tone of Elizabeth's. Even though she loved being outside when she was younger, Raine never seemed to obtain a nice tan. The most she could ever get from the sun was a bright red or pink color that ached and iched for days. Ah, sunburn, she thought back, coldly.
When she had finally straightened out her bruised limbs, she looked at the girl in front of her and shrugged apologetically. "I'm fine," a defeated voice answered, "but there goes our race. It wouldn't be a race, ya know, without me getting the head start," she added
"Ruined. Hmph," she stated flately. Raine pouted as she shuffled her feet around, in preperation to hobble back the way she had come. But a thought brightened her mind and stopped her for a short moment. The fun doesn't have to end yet...
"So. . .would you be up to doing something that poses less of a threat to my health?" Her eager question warmed her with hope. The hope that her new friend just might stick around a little longer.

Elizabeth sighed, ending her laughing for now. A pleasant expression remained in place instead. With a firm hand, Elizabeth helped to hoist Raine up, teetering slightly. Unlike Raine, Elizabeth didn’t notice the contrast between the two hands as they clasped together in friendly comradeship. She was too surprised by her own willingness to touch another person. Elizabeth was very particular when touch came into mind. Only people that she was comfortable with got to share in physical contact with her. These instances surprised and alarmed her. This wasn’t the first time this summer that she had totally thrown away her usual behavior around strangers. Hush Hills was having an odd effect on her.
However much Elizabeth enjoyed the race, she was guiltily aware that she was glad it was over, so she just shrugged at Raine’s comment. Skinny didn’t mean that she was in shape. Elizabeth thought grudgingly of the times she told herself she was going to start a jogging routine. So far it hasn’t had much progress. One of the many benefits to getting a dog, Elizabeth thought, slightly bitterly. Unfortunately Elizabeth thought vampires and dogs would get along well together.
Once again, the bright grin popped up on Elizabeth’s face at the mention of still hanging out with Raine.
”Yeah sure! Got any ideas though? I don’t know how much stuff there is do to in this town though…” Elizabeth said, her brows furrowed slightly. This might stunt the fun. Well, she knew of only one thing interesting to do here. She didn't wait for Raine to answer
"Hey, wanna come over?"

"Uh...come over?" she stammered, "sure, why not." The question caught her off guard. Raine giggled a little as she continued to head towards her truck, "so does that officially make us friends, now?" Absentmindedly she brushed the red flames from her face as a sudden gust sifted through her mane. Her head turned expectantly towards her blonde companion awaiting a response. Within a second of asking her question Raine was off in another world. Daydreaming once again. she tended to do this often more so lately, ever since she drove past the "Welcome to Hush Hills" sign. This town gave her such an odd feeling, one that she couldn't put a finger on. To anyone else it would have been a bad feeling but to her it flared in pure curiosity.
This Elizabeth emitted a weird vibe to Raine. She was most obviously normal but she seemed like she knew something more. Knowledge that any regular human being would be oblivious to. All of this confused Raine. That bothered her, a lot.

OOC:// Vara and I already have a post at the coons lake house, wanna join in there?
”Okay cool. Just come over any time. We’re not picky. And yeah, I’d say officially friends.’ Elizabeth said, beaming. Yay! My first human friend. Elizabeth thought. This brought a chuckle. Raine would probably think the chuckle was from the excitement of having her new friend over. Don’t get her wrong, she was exited that Raine would be coming over some time, but that random trail of thought was just so amusing. Elizabeth sighed, placed her hands on her hips, and gazed over the landscape. Yes, she had looked over the land many times since arriving, but the view was just so splendid. The golden sunshine turned the grass on the other hills golden as well. In fact, the whole world had a golden tint to it. An absolutely beautiful day. Oh! Right.
”What about the day before school started? I live over at Goldleaf Lake. The Coon’s lake house.” Elizabeth added, with a slight bob of her head in Raine’s direction.
