Uyreu sat somberly on the hard train seat, glancing every few minutes out the dirt streaked window. Her grandmother spoke up, “Humph! These filthy people don’t know how to take care of their own train! Why, if we were back in Wolverton…” Uyreu and her grandmother had been sitting on the train for six long, anticipating hours. They had flown over from Wolverton, UK, and found the only train headed for the north-western part of North Carolina. “Grandmother…” Uyreu ventured, her English accent rising in her frustration. “Perhaps they are short of money. After all, not many people take long train rides anymore.” Her grandmother sniffed. Uyreu sighed and leaned back into dark blue fabric. She hoisted up her favorite gray and black striped bag and delved through it until she felt her headphones and chartreuse I-Pod. She dug them out and slid the silver headphones over her ears and pressed the play button. Soothing piano music flowed though the headphones, and Uyreu sank farther down into the seat wearily. She closed her eyes with a sigh. Hopefully, she thought, this long, boring ride would end soon.
The train jerked to a halt. Uyreu's green eyes sprang open as her bag slid off her lap. Her grandmother stirred beside her. She leaned over her companion to peer out the window. An old looking train station loomed outside. The loudspeaker announced that all the passengers must depart now. She stood up and touched her gradmother's shoulder, signifying that they need to leave. Ten minutes later, Uyreu was stepping out of the doors of the station alone, her grandmother just having left on the other train back for the airport to take a plane to Wolverton. She looked around to find the man that she was going to live with. Uncle Raksa, was his name

It had been a lazy day. As usual Twilight had gotten up early, fed and walked the dogs, then took Thor and headed to work. Even the day at the vet office had been slow. So, Twilight left a message at the desk to call her on her cell phone if she was needed and headed home. Twilight was walking with her dogs behind the old and sparsely used train station when she noticed a new train coming in. This was odd. Trains didn’t often come into Hush Hills, and only when necessary, except in the late fall. But that was usually in October. Plus, the last train that had come in carried a vampire on it. Maybe this train would hold similar surprises.
After putting her dogs into a down/stay out of sight, Twilight ran to the train station. With light footsteps Twilight circled the train station. Twilight stopped before stepping out into the light, where she would be visible. Dirt had been smudged on her denim shorts. Leaves and pine needles and mud clung to her shoes and lower calves. A grimace inched onto Twilight’s face. She looked like she had been tromping through the woods. Was this any way to greet the newcomers to Hush Hills? No, I usually greet them with tooth and claw. The non-humans at least. The grimace broke slightly, a small smile appearing in it’s place.
Brushing off the dirt on her shorts, Twilight then took off a shoe and shook the leaves and other plant matter off her ankle. She then replaced her shoe, and repeated the same process with the other side. Not satisfied with her appearance, she rolled her eyes and stepped out onto the street in front of the railroad station. Now from the road, she walked in the entrance of the railroad station. Hopefully no one would notice that she hadn’t arrived by car. The place was empty anyways. Except for one man. Mr. Raksa. This was odd man was rarely seen. Of course she knew him, the town was too small for that, but she didn’t know much about him. This made her scalp prickle slightly. She should have looked into the old man earlier. For now, she would play the young, friendly, neighborhood vet.
”Mr. Raksa? Hello, remember me, Twilight Blakk?” Twilight asked pleasantly. Her facial expression was equally pleasant. She would make small talk while waiting for the passengers to disembark.

Raksa turned at the familiar voice. “Oh, hello, Ms. Twilight. What brings you here?” He had been waiting for at least an hour, for his niece, Uyreu. She would be coming here to Hush Hills with her grandmother. Raksa had received a call two days earlier, when Uyreu’s grandmother asked him if Uyreu could stay at his home in a quiet, immortal filled town like Hush Hills. Raksa figured that Twilight was curious to find out why he was here, considering he had not left his house for at least a month. He was very shocked to find out that he had another werewolf in the family, and even more to hear his sister and her husband were dead. “I’m just here waiting for my niece, Uyreu Clarke. She is coming here from Wolverton, UK. She should be here any minute.” A trace of impatience leaked into his words.
Uyreu Clarke stepped out of the doors of the old station. She pulled in her first breath of the air of her new home. She glanced around and saw Uncle Raksa talking to a young lady with wavy, light brown hair. She stepped out of the tiny crowd departing the station. She walked briskly up to her uncle, and announced, “Uncle Raksa? It’s me, Uyreu Clarke.” Uyreu remembered the advice her grandmother had given her on the train. If you are ever late, remember to apologize, your uncle is not a patient man. “I am sorry for being late.”

Twilight watched the old man carefully. So he had a visitor coming? Hopefully this girl, Uyreu would be merely human. With her luck though, she wouldn’t. Twilight smiled lightly at Mr. Raksa’ s impatience. Twilight was about to ask how long he had been waiting. When she heard the train doors creek and claw their way open. Twilight turned her head toward the train. She took a deep breath as the cool air from inside the train was expelled with a whoosh. Oh course. Twilight’s body went rigid indistinctly.
Like she suspected, the girl stepping off the train was an immortal. A werewolf specifically. Quick but thorough eyes scanned the young girl. She couldn’t be over fourteen. Twilight groaned inwardly. Another young one. Nix had been the first young werewolf that she herself had been in charge of. Twilight wondered if she would be the one to help this wolf too. As Uyreu approached them, Twilight put on another pleasant smile.
”This must be Uyreu!” Twilight said enthusiastically. Her eyes told a slightly different story though. They were wary and watchful.

Uyreu was warmed by the lady’s enthusiastic greeting. The young immortal had been nervous about meeting a strange woman, but she seemed nice enough. She looked into her pretty eyes, and her mood was dropped a little. Why does this lady seem troubled? I hope not by me! Uyreu forced a smile to her lips. “Yes, I am Uyreu, pleased to meet-.” Her voice dropped off as a familiar scent was detected. What is that smell? It smells a little like me I suppose... It was at that moment that she realized that this lady talking to Uncle Raksa, was a werewolf. Her eyes went wide. Is this why grandmother sent me to live here? Because there were other immortals? Uyreu wasn’t sure if she was excited at the prospect of meeting another immortal, or just plain scared. She shrank back against her uncle, doubting that the woman was oblivious of her immortality. Uyreu finished up her sentence, and stuck out her hand warily. “Pleased to meet you.”

Twilight watched Uyreu. Suddenly the girl shrank back. She must have caught my scent. Twilight thought to herself. Seeing the fear in Uyreu’s eyes, Twilight felt guilty about being so wary of the girl. She was just a child. Twilight sighed inwardly. Her eyes changed moods, warming with friendliness. She cast a swift glance over at Mr. Raksa. Hopefully he hadn’t noticed their exchange. I wonder if he even knows… about her. Twilight mused silently.
”Pleased to meet you too.” Twilight said, warming slightly at the girl’s pleasantries. It wasn’t often you heard people talk that way.
”So, all the way from the UK eh?” Twilight asked, trying to make light conversation. She was also curious about the girl. How long was she planning on staying? How did she get turned? Had she been a werewolf for long? Questions like these swirled through her mind. Well, the young wolf certainly picked a interesting time to come. With that thought, more questions circled through Twilight’s mind. Why now had immortals chosen to flock her town? What drew them here?

Raksa had noticed the uncomfortable moment. When Twilight eyes changed to a friendlier mode, he cleared his throat and nodded in the direction of his car. "Well, Uyreu, we had better be getting home." He smiled uncomfortably at Twilight. "And Ms. Blakk, I will let you get on with whatever it is you where doing."
The sudden warmness in this Ms. Blakk was confusing to Uyreu. Well whatever she was troubled about, she is over it now. Uyreu and her uncle walked towards the car. As they walked, Uyreu caught a scent of dog. She leaned toward her uncle, and whispered in his ear, "I think she was walking her dog." She stole a glance in the direction of Twilight, hoping she didn't hear her.
Raksa briefly wondered how she knew that Twilight was doing before their meeting, and remembered what his sister had said once. The senses of humans compared to a werewolf or vampire are like a snail to a rat. Then he noticed that she looked warily back at Twilight, as if making sure she didn't hear Uyreu, didn't suspect that she was a werewolf. But something had passed between them. He decided to wait patiently, if Uyreu didn't want to explain to him about it, he wasn't the one to pry.

Twilight nodded. ”Alright. It was nice meeting you Uyreu. Maybe I’ll see you around town? Feel free to stop by my office. I’m the vet of the town.” Twilight said and gave Uyreu a friendly wink. She watched the pair walk away from the train station. Hopefully she would see Uyreu again. Twilight wanted to keep an eye on the young wolf. The young ones could always mean trouble. They were the least stable and had the least control over themselves.
Twilight headed in the opposite direction of the pair. Ended up, today had been much more interesting then she had planned. Or hoped. Maybe this wouldn’t be such a bad thing, having another young one. She was content to let things play out how they would. For now. Twilight headed into the shadows of the forest to pick up her dogs again. Though it had been a while, she knew they would be waiting there for her.
