Elizabeth was suddenly snapped from her gazing when she heard a familiar voice. She hadn’t heard the steps in the sand, but that shouldn’t surprise her. The voice belonged to Vara. Uhoh. Elizabeth didn’t know whether or not she wanted to turn around to meet her friend. She would probably be in trouble for running off to talk to a strange vampire. Well, she would have to face her sometime.
Elizabeth turned to face Vara. Her friend looked calm enough, though Elizabeth would bet anything that it would please Vara very much to rip someone’s head off. Vara never liked it when she ran off without telling her, especially when another vampire was involved.
”Vara. This is Drake, I can’t pronounce the rest of his name, so he will have to tell you it. He just moved in. And yeah, this is my vampire friend, her name is Vara.” Elizabeth waved first to Drake, then to Vara. After she was finished introducing everyone, Elizabeth turned so that both Drake and Vara were in her line of sight. Now she would wait, and see if the vampires played nicely.

Without the religious-like self control Vara had trained herself to uphold she would have slipped and/or snapped. Not only just slip but twitch, bite(kill), and explode. This male vampire was getting on her nerves. There was no real reason for her agitation at him other than the fact that he had made contact with Elizabeth (her best friend and defenseless human) Vara's mind was reeling with death threats and tactical ways of ripping any and every protruding body part off of this Drake's frame. A casual sigh mechanically released itself in reply to the word vampire and Elizabeth's greeting. She's nervous and she looks guilty, dually noted.
Apparently secrecy was not an issue for this vampire. Either he carelessly traipsed around town alerting everyone to his species or he refused to play charades with anyone who had the knowledge of man's personal predators. A single eyebrow hooked up smoothly above Vara's right, blue eye as she made a nod in curt greeting to the stranger. Vara had a certain preference that she shared with her best friend , neither of them liked to touch or be touched. "Keep your hands to yourself", that would have a been a great motto for Vara besides the fact that it sounded a bit childish. It was tough to whip her hand up and let it hang in the air long enough for Drake to catch on to the gesture. She was trying to make this as friendly and human-like as possible.
"Nice to meet you, Drake."
I need to relax. Definitely not her thing.
